It feels to me that many small businesses underestimate the importance of their broadband; right up to the point where they experience a fault. And, as with all ADSL services in the UK/Europe, the best efforts repair process begins. As a small business owner, you may find yourself on the end of a telephone line for hours, and running tests for days. All because you own a service that costs your company only £1 per day.
Maybe it is time we valued the service this connection provides, and its importance. Maybe you should consider a backup plan, for when it fails. Maybe you should invest in a higher level of Connectivity; one that comes with an SLA (Service Level Agreement) or a minimum speed guarantee.
The price of a private circuit (Leased Line / Ethernet circuit), exclusively for your business, is constantly dropping, and may not be as unaffordable as you imagine. Private circuits are the corporate style solutions, but they also have entry level connections that you should consider. These are not the only options available, so maybe it’s time to look at your Connectivity budget and consider the real cost of not being able to get online.
If you have not looked at your current internet connectivity in the last 2 years, you are probably already using out of date technology that would not cost you much more to upgrade. In addition to this your router, is most likely in need of an upgrade.
You will find out how important this lifeline is to your business, just after you suffer the pain of a fault. Being without broadband is one of the most frustrating and damaging things that can happen to any small business. It can be avoided, so do your research, be prepared, have a plan.
I hope you never have to experience this issue, as we really know exactly how frustrating it will be for you.
