What if suddenly you had no orders from your website? No access to your cloud based services? No email? No VOIP? No access to Head office? Can you imagine the chaos? All businesses are reliant on their data connections these days and some businesses do not review how reliable or robust their connections are, or what options may be available. Some small businesses are shocked when they find out that the service level on their line can leave them legitimately without service for over a week. My advice is check your SLA's with your service provider today. We have some customers that require a 7 hour fix, otherwise they could go out of business.
BT's broadband and phone network appears to have been suffering nationwide problems in the UK. Down detector, a website that monitors internet failures, is reporting thousands of cases in places such as London, Birmingham and Sheffield. The issue is trending on social media with customers reporting issues. BT confirmed that many of its services were currently not working although there are reports of them returning in some areas. A spokesman said: "It is true that we are down at the moment. We are aware of the problems and are working on them as fast as we can." Its website has also crashed and some users are reporting that its customer service line is down. Hundreds of people have taken to social media to express their frustration using the hashtag #BTdown, which is currently trending on Twitter.
