Android have released a new version of Android - Android Go - which is designed to help Android handsets with less than 1GHz of RAM to run effortlessly. So what does this mean?
Android is the name of the operating system that runs on 'Android-enabled' mobile phones such as HTCs, Samsungs, Pixels, Huawei and MOTO phones. In much the same way that Windows was the operating system that would run on your Dell, Sony, HP, or Acer laptops and PC's. The problem is that as these operating systems evolve, as we demand more from them, the devices that these operating systems run on need to evolve too. Just as we had to upgrade our PC's and laptop's to run these faster operating systems, nowadays we need to upgrade our phones. It was widely reported in the news that Apple was deliberately slowing older handset models to encourage older handset users to upgrade, but not everyone needs an all singing, all dancing, handset, so what are the options?
1. Don't upgrade - keeping your handsets on the older version of the software means you don't need to worry about the handset slowing down, however it does leave you open to security risks so not an advised option.
2. Get a new handset - maybe its time to upgrade to a new handset, and benenfit from the newer technology.
3. Use Android Go! - it may or may not be a fit for your business, but utilising the new Android Go may be the solution to ensure your staff have a good mobile experience, without having to invest in high-end equipment.

It promises quicker, slicker performance on handsets with 1GB of RAM or less. That’s because the phones come with fewer apps pre-installed, which makes the handsets less clogged. This has the added bonus of giving you more free storage to play with. And who doesn’t like more storage? The apps themselves also take up less space (about 50 per cent less, according to Google), and are less processor-intensive than standard Android apps. With super-light updates and downloads, your budget Android blower should motor along without slowing down like a tricycle stuck in treacle.
